Chapters In A Novel Novels & Stories

I read my book. The chapter resolved. Not the novel — the novel had further to go, the chapter was a chapter, the resolution of this particular architecture of tension that the author had been building. The characters did the thing. I had known it was coming, had been ahead of them for a hundred pages, and it arrived and it was — the word was right. It was the word. The thing that happened when a thing arrived that had been arriving for long enough that its arrival was both surprise and completion simultaneously.

The difference is not small. She writes it in chapters that are not chapters — they are entries, the way the notebooks are entries, each one a day or a week of being inside the argument rather than describing it from outside. She does not know what order they will take until she has written enough of them to see the shape.

This has been irritating me for a few days. To the people complaining about how the chapters are broken up, this is not a decision I made myself. I'm doing what I was told to do. GN wants chapters under 1k words to make them easier to purchase. Especially with bonus coins. My chapters tend to be 3-4k words so I HAVE to break them up. The first few chapters that are free I kept at their regular length because they are free, but the chapters starting from where it goes to PTR I was told to make shorter. There are other option on where to read my books if the chapter breaks are that much of an issue.... Leaving negative reviews for something so silly and out of my hands is unfair and really pet

Her fingers, previously just cleaning dust, now trembled with a different kind of anticipation. She turned the page with a deliberate, almost reverent motion. The next entry was dated two weeks later, and the handwriting was slightly more hurried, the lines of the page crowded, as if the writer had been desperate to capture the feeling before it faded.

"Just what do you mean? What's wrong with that book? Because it contains adult content? Of course, we are more than old enough to read stories like that. You are too carried away, Aiden!" "You still don't understand either? Haven't I often told you?" "I know I know, but I bet you didn't read that story until the next chapter, did you?" "I've only read 15 chapters."
