To some degree, we’re all like this: fundamentally flawed, but doing our best to make life better. Instead of painting the characters in the novel with these simplistic brushes, I tried my best to instead show them as varying degrees of Selfless and Selfish. It’s out of these two traits that we can determine all sorts of ideologies. Add on top of that each characters’ dreams and desires, and we get a much better sense of who they are. Do they lean left or right on the political spectrum? Are they about helping others or profiting off them? When they kill, do they do it to protect, or out of greed? Are they making other peoples’ lives better, or only making their own life better?

I'm the type to be unmotivated by bad comments which is why I chose to put a warning first. if you stay even after reading this, then I do not expect to hear any bad comments from you (specifically if it's a complaint about how weak my character is… anything else pertaining the story is fine.). So even though Freddy and Jason might just be a fragment of fiction, well it doesn't mean that you are already safe from their real-life counterparts. If you think about it, psychopaths are vaguely similar to morally capable people. And yes, there are ways we could differentiate them from each other but that doesn't mean MCPs are better. It just all points out on what we choose to become. With that I believe that the characters actions in this story are not limitedly portrayed as an antagonist or protagonist in that matter, as I'm particular that there is not one antagonist or protagonist in this story… if you are wondering which is which, I'm confident to leave that to your imagination.

She was an antagonist and had two personalities, which meant she had a personality disorder.

She had been alone for so many years, so it was inevitable that she would be more aggressive.

I saw the narrative purpose of every object, every shadow, every decision that had led us here. I saw the branching paths forward, the choices we'd make and the consequences that would follow. Saw timelines where we succeeded and timelines where we failed, all laid out like a flowchart. And I saw my team not as people but as character archetypes fulfilling narrative functions. Amon the loyal companion. Miranda the tactical leader. Whitney the analytical support. Fabian the morally complex wildcard. Reginald the redeemed victim. Olyrienne the powerful newcomer. They were roles in a story, and I was the protagonist being tested.
