Characters In Refugee Novels & Stories

"Guards, throw all these filthy refugees out. If any resists, kill them on spot." "Yes , sir!" The guards forcefully dragged the refugees away. They beat up the ones who refused to go. They kicked a pregnant woman, causing her to miscarriage. It caused a huge commotion. But the guards showed no pity to the crying woman who now lost her baby. They continue to drag her away as she bleed. Daemon arrived and saw the scene. "How bold of you to treat the refugees like trash! Do you know what crime you have committed!?" Daemon was angry. Mighell stood by his side.

One warrior hit a refugee with the back of his gun and that was the last straw for me. “Hey!!! How dare you?” I yelled at him. The warrior turned to me and he was stunned to see me. Lance gave a shocking expression and approached me, “Luna? What are you doing here? If Alpha finds out, he will behead all of us.” the voice sounded filled with terror. I stood on my ground confidently, “i am here to help these people. They are refugees, they don’t have anything to lose and i will never let anyone, anyone take anything from them.” I was furious.

Over time, I crossed borders into more than five countries, never staying so long in one place. I lived in refugee camps, and some kind souls even offered me shelter, but their intentions soon turned sinister. Men wanted to rape me and women I soon realized they would do anything to save themselves. So I stayed alone, that was until I met Charles Clavelen in a dark corridor. We didn't start off great, I intended to rob him, but instead, he offered me everything he had.

The rain had turned the streets into mud soup by the time Seth Kane’s unit reached the old church on the hill. It was one of the few buildings in this district still mostly standing. The spire had taken a hit but the main structure held. Word had come down that refugees were holed up inside — mostly women, kids, and old men who couldn’t fight. Perfect hiding spot. Easy pickings. Seth kicked open the heavy wooden doors. The warm smell was the first time which hit him: wet wool, candle wax, and unwashed bodies.

She hesitated only a breath before taking it. The path down wound through pine and stone. As they neared the camp at the valley floor, the sound reached them: crying, wailing, low moans of pain. Refugees huddled by the stream, their faces smeared with soot. Wolves moved among them, handing water skins, binding wounds, but the air bristled with unease. The moment Serenya stepped into view, a hush fell. Heads turned. Eyes narrowed. Mothers pulled children closer. One man spat into the dirt, his glare burning hotter than the embers he’d fled.

The Rank 5 Surpasser stared hard at the refugees before him. "Who's the outsider?!" The hundreds of refugees all took a few steps out of fear when they heard it. Lucas sauntered into the scene and looked at the Rank 5 Surpasser faintly, and slowly said, "I'm that outsider." The Rank 5 Surpasser heard it and glanced at Lucas with a critical gaze. Then, he smiled coldly. "Do you know what's your outcome?"

“We have nowhere else to go. The other packs are too afraid to help. But I heard you're different. That you actually fight back.” I looked at the refugees. Women, children, and the elderly. Warriors who'd fought and lost everything. I saw myself in their eyes—the fear, the determination, the desperate hope that someone would help. There was really only one choice. “You're welcome here,” I said. “All of you. For as long as you need.” Relief flooded into Mira's face. “Thank you. We'll earn our keep. My warriors will fight.” “Rest first,” I interrupted gently.

“Sorry about your loss. But just because our city sheltered you doesn’t mean you have to break our laws.” “I was hungry,” the girl pleaded in her defense. “I will never do it again. I promise.” “You know we’re Libra, right?” the second Libra member hissed. When the Libra members drew close, they gave in out of fear. Since they had little money, that girl would be doing community service for a day. There was nothing we could do to help them. “We should get going,” Wilt said. I heaved a forlorn sigh, realizing the growing number of people here were refugees. I wished the Red Flight Crisis would end as soon as possible.

“Doesn’t matter. Alpha Green will figure it out. His son owns nightclubs and real estate all over Tucson, and the pack owns a brewery north of Phoenix. We can find jobs for them. Get them integrated. Help with the PTSD.” Lance gives a solemn nod. “Good. You have an understanding of what they’re dealing with.” “I know a few from the California lab. They function… but barely. Real paranoid and jittery. Definitely off.” I think of Declan, Laurie and Parker and shake my head. They are definitely unique characters. “Good,” Lance repeats. “We have two dozen refugees,” Rafe tells me. We took them in six weeks ago when we located the lab and took it down. They are currently camped nearby.”

As we came out of the building and headed back out into the chaos, I was surprised to find that she continued to follow me with no complaints; although she didn’t drop her knife. Finally, we made our way back to the infirmary. Luke, Lori, and Jessica were guiding the refugees into the tunnels. “I’m not going in there,” Selena said, shaking her head and folding her arms across her chest when she saw where the refugees were headed. “No way.” “It’s safer down there,” I said, trying my best not to upset her even more. “I promise you won’t need to be down there for long.”
