The guards went back inside. No one looked at her again.
Charlotte stood there, frozen, two sets of memories pulling at her.
In one, she was the Collins family's golden child and a Wexford graduate, admired and untouchable.
In the other, she was a high school dropout with a ruined leg, kneeling in front of a man she had used, begging him to help her.
The more she tried to make sense of it, the worse it got. Her head pounded.
By the time she made it home, the Collins villa was gone. In its place was a small, plain two-bedroom.
Her mom was in the kitchen cooking. Her dad stood on the balcony, smoking as he made quiet calls, trying to borrow money.
