Escaping With Eve
I carefully placed Eve within the reed piles and whispered, “Eve, wait here for me. I’ll go bring the boat over.”
Eve nodded obediently. With the cart, it wasn’t long before I pulled the boat into the marsh.
I helped Eve onto it, and then, as quietly as I could, I began rowing.
Since it was just me, the boat moved slowly, but at least we were heading forward. Soon, we would be out of this terrible place.
Eve’s eyes began to sparkle with hope for freedom. However, just then, the boat suddenly hit resistance and wouldn’t move any further.
