It has me rushing to get to my newly purchased car so I can go get my woman. My woman and soon to be my wife—again.

I feel grandpa’s hand on my shoulder, and he gives me a reassuring look. ​ We spread out quickly, and I start showing people pictures of Sloane, but no one has seen her. ​ “Have you seen this woman? She’s my wife.” ​ “No, sir.” ​ That’s the short response I’ve been getting. I spent an hour searching through the airport, and my private investigator had to mobilize every resource he could, searching the security camera. ​ “Sir, we’ve found your wife.” My private investigator’s voice sounds from afar, and I run towards him, panting heavily. She’s at the departure gate, but we don’t have any tickets. How are we supposed to pass?

“She is married to Freddy. It seems like you forgot to add that.” He glanced at me. “Have you ever wondered to look into their marriage?” He narrowed his eyes. “And why should I?” I faced him squarely. “Why should I look into the marriage of my ex-wife? If she has chosen to move on, who am I to still bother her? I tried to tell her that Freddy was not who he claimed to be but she shut me up and told me not to speak ill of her husband. Tell me, David. What should I do?” I looked at the barman who was busy flirting with a woman that seemed high class.

Charlie huffs, "He made bale. He said he was on the way to the hospital to see his wife." I grind my teeth. If he thinks I'm going to let him see his wife after what he did to her he has another thing coming. "Great. Thanks for the heads up," I grumble through gritted teeth. At least he gave me a warning. "Sure thing," he says before hanging up. I look over at Dr. Chase, and decide to look her up. I need to find someone who is not her husband. She has to have some family somewhere.

"What's that supposed to mean? I'm Chase's wife! Do I need your permission to see my own husband? Keep this up, and I'll have him kick you off the team!" The mention of her being my wife made something snap in Sean. He lunged forward, grabbed her wrist, and roared, "His wife? I'm surprised you still remember that! You murdered him with your own hands, yet you dare call yourself his wife! Fine. You want to see him, right? I'll take you to him right now!" He hauled her deeper into the camp. She stumbled after him, trying and failing to break free. Finally, Sean stopped in front of a closed door. He shoved it open and said icily, "Chase is right inside."

My eyes shifted as I watched Cherry and an unknown dude stepping out of the elevator car "I know and I'm trying, and you are asking...," Cherry's words instantly died down as her eyes met mine My brows knitted in confusion as I stared from the guy to my wife. "What's going on here?" I snapped, watching as the guy took a step away from my wife

"If she was really pregnant, why didn't she tell you?" I laughed bitterly. "She tried." I grabbed my car keys and headed for the front door. Lucy hurried after me and caught my arm. "Where are you going?" she asked. "To find my wife." The words came out before I even realized what I had said. Lucy's face changed immediately. "She's not your wife anymore," she snapped. "She signed the divorce papers." I pulled my arm away. "She signed them because I gave her no choice." I rushed outside and got into my car. As soon as the engine started, I drove out of the gate. I called Emily again and again, but every call went unanswered. By the time I reached the small apartment she used to live in before

“Drugging your ex-wife? Planning to play house in another country?” “Cheryse,” I growled, pissed. She’s not putting the kibosh on my plans. “What the hell are you doing here?” “Oh, don’t look so surprised, husband.” She laughed as she pulled a phone from her purse. “You think I don’t see what you do? I put a tracker on your car two weeks ago. I’ve been watching you, Caleb. Every sneaky little move.” My jaw tightened. “You bitch!” “Maybe,” she said with a shrug, “but at least I’m not delusional enough to think some washed-up little wife deserves the life I built with you.”

To him, I must be worthless now. “I should be asking you that. What’s your agenda, Austin? I came here to meet my ex wife. Why are you acting like a thorn? It can’t be that you’ve fallen in love with her, is it? That couldn’t be why you’re so frustrated over my sudden appearance is it?” As I cut him off, I didn’t know when a scoff burst out of my mouth, my icy tone matching his.

I see it in the tiny flicker across her face before it disappears again. But it’s there for one second. “You’ve known Nadia for barely a few weeks,” she says carefully now. “You’ve forgotten the reality of your marriage.” My chest tightens instantly because she’s right. I don’t remember most of it. But somehow I still know this is wrong. “I remember enough.”
