She wanted to see the man behind the mask. Cole looked at Justin and the latter gave him the go ahead to remove the mask. He bent down and removed the mask from the man’s face. Jasmine gasped when she saw the man behind the mask. She recognized him as one of the guards who worked from the Baxters when she and her mother lived there. She vaguely remembered that her mother would always get scared when she saw him and when she asked her mother why she was scared of him, she would avoid the question and simply warnher to stay away from him.

“Let’s see you two.” Justin rolled his eyes, flipping the furred hood over his head again as Lily drew the red hood of her cloak over hers. “Where’s your mouth?” she demanded. “Justin Lawrence Mitchell, after all the effort I put into that, if you’ve left it at home, I’ll be furious.” “Sweetheart,” he soothed, pulling the half-mask she and Evelyn had made for him out of his pocket. He held it up before his face, the mask covering the lower half. “It’s right here.”

He just stood there looking at her in awe. “Thanks,” she replied, and she blushed a little. “Why were you looking for me?” “Uh, right,” Langrion said seemingly able to recollect his thoughts at the moment. “Khailis and I just met with the made that the commander had sent. Through the cracks in the duct, Chloe saw a young face hidden behind a black mask. All she could see were his eyes—upturned like a fox’s, with a small teardrop mole at the corner. He was watching the Syndicate hunters outside with sharp intensity.

I say giving her a small nod, watching as she leaves the room. A few minutes later, the door opens, and Ghost walks out dressed for the wedding. He looks good—sharp suit, crisp lines, but still unmistakably him. He fastens his gun holster with a muttered, “Everyone’s getting checked.” I raise an eyebrow. “You won’t need a gun at the wedding,” I say with a smirk. “You might change your mind,” he counters. “And if you do, I’m shooting you before you get the chance to run.” I snort. “Fair play.”

I gently pulled him close and patted his head, trying to reassure him. "Shh, Alex. It's okay. Mummy wants to know why you're wearing this mask. Can you tell me? I promise I won't be mad at you." I asked softly, wiping the tears from his eyes. Alex hung his head in shame, and my kids crowded around me, their eyes fixed on Alex's new face and the mask in my hand. I gently placed my fingers under Alex's chin, encouraging him to look up at me. His green eyes, once a bright blue like my kids’ and Mario's, locked onto mine, and I could see the fear and uncertainty lingering in their depths.

“I picked her out of the crowd, so let me start.” The rest of the men groaned with discontent as their friend adjusted his mask and stood right before her. The mask had an eerie smile extending from the left ear to the right, but placed on the forehead instead of his mouth. He had his chin covered with sharp stubble and a mouth which right then had a disdainful shape. Jasmine had already lost hers, she was trembling with fear, and her nose started bleeding. That was her trait - whenever she felt scared, the bleeding started and didn’t stop until she lay down with a piece of ice on it.
