She wore a black, floor-length cocktail dress with long sleeves, her hair pulled into a perfect ponytail, and her makeup done to make her look like a goddess. She smiled and walked straight to Jasper, not even acknowledging me. She leaned in to kiss Jasper on the lips, but he turned his head at the last moment. Chloe still kissed his cheek before turning to me with a giant smile.

Photographs slid out, glossy prints showing Chloe entering the mansion gates, her hair hidden beneath a hoodie, and later, laughing beside Ares in the garden. Another photo captured her standing near a fountain, one hand resting lightly on her stomach. Colt exhaled. “She didn’t honor her part of the deal.”

I blink, afraid if I look away she’ll disappear somehow, that maybe I’m just imaging all this. She’s drenched from the rain, dark red hair hanging around her face, somehow highlighting her intense green eyes. Dressed in hiking boots, black leggings, and a white t-shirt with the words Shadowfall along the collar, my eyes go right to her breasts on their own accord and—fuck—I can see the faint outline of her nipples through the wet fabric. I’ve wondered what Chloe looks like naked multiple times over the years. I’ve caught glimpses of her here and there, most happening innocently enough. But seeing her—all of her—has been the subject of my dreams more times than once.

Claire said as she entered the room with a tray of drinks. "I thought you went to get bandages?" Ivan said taking the tray from her almost in a rush and helping her sit down. "I was until I heard the girls shout through the window, I thought another attack was coming." Claire attempted to readjust herself before sighing, reaching behind her, and pulling an action figure out from behind her. Without a word, she looked at Frank who was pretending to find the wallpaper suddenly interesting. "How much longer?" Lilly asked taking a drink from the tray.

"Look at her! She’s not moving! I am not leaving her here! You can leave without me if you're that terrified of getting in trouble, but I am not moving an inch!" Mark blinked at me, completely stunned. He took a step back, looking around the rapidly empty building, Jaxon and Kane were already slipping out through the back doors, completely abandoning the disaster they had created. I rushed down to where Chloe lay. "Hey! Wake up, open your eyes! Please, wake up!" I cried, my hands trembling as I reached out and gently gripped her shoulders. I shook her slightly, desperate for any sign of life, any flutter of her eyelids. Her face was deathly pale, her skin cold to the touch.

"Zachary, what do you think? Chloe designed this for me!" Zachary hummed and nodded. His eyes were unreadable as he spied a bright flash on her dress. Looking up at the trailer, he saw Joey's slim figure and the purple tattoo on her back. He clenched his fists and averted his gaze. "You should head in." Julia pursed her lips. She recalled how Zachary had stared at Joey and Selena at the entrance. Had he known that that was Chloe and her assistant? Was he interested in them?

“Who is Chloe and how does the gift work? You won’t remember any of this conversation when it’s done.” “She’s one of the slaves that you got from the Slater pack. She was stunning—hazel eyes, coffee-brown hair that fell in soft waves, and a confident expression that screamed privilege. Dressed in a crisp white shirt and fitted jeans, with heels clicking sharply against the floor, she looked nothing like someone who needed assistance. A designer handbag hung from her arm, and a luggage bag rested by her side.

I stood and untied my apron, throwing it on the floor at their feet. “I’m done cleaning. I’m going out with Daniel and I’m eating the cake I bought.” Sophie and her friends snickered behind me as I stormed into the kitchen and grabbed the cake out of the fridge that I’d purchased with my savings. It was small, really no more than a cupcake, but it was my favorite—chocolate with peanut butter icing. It was decadent and beautiful and the one thing in this house that was truly mine. But Sophie had a way of ruining things. She always did.

"If she's so foolish, let her be fooled until she loses everything." My wolf snarled in agreement, satisfied. Silence settled like snowfall. Chloe hit a single key, every screen went dark at once. "Chloe, how's it going?" Amelia offered her water. Her name was Chloe? It was a beautiful name for a beautiful woman, I thought. Chloe grinned, downing it with a reckless tilt. "Easy. I hacked into Patrick's files and took out a few massive loans in his name. If he tries to flee the country, border control will snap their jaws around his throat."
