Ayla’s POV My breathe stops. I gulp down the invincible lump that forms in my throat as I stare at the men — wolves actually, who didn’t seem like they have a pack. “My name is Ayla, I am here for the selection,” I say, keeping my voice steady. “Take off your cap.” One of them orders. I immediately take off my cap and look at them, praying that my eyes doesn’t give me away. He stares at me for quite a long time before nodding, “Follow me.” The other one orders. I nod and follow closely behind him.

Kaelith hurried into the kitchen, and I plopped down on the sofa with the first ancient book, not the one Alaric had found. Our names were still clearly displayed there, connected by the thread of fate. The next page was still blank, so I opened it again and again. I'm on the lookout for a page that might suddenly fill up like it did before. Kaelith came back with two cups of hot tea, put them next to the ancient book, and then gently ruffled the top of my head.
