There would soon be presents and cookies. There was every reason to be happy and content. But, all she could think about was Nathan. So, she sat on the floor in front of the fire and drank rum. It was her annual place to sit on Christmas Eve. Holly and Mark had already watched the old Claymation version of Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Now they would exchange books as was their tradition.

Mitch kissed Ronnie and then said, "Merry Christmas, everyone! **** On Christmas day, Wyatt rushed to his parents' room, yelling, "He came, he really came." "Who? What are you talking about?" Ronnie asked, groggy with sleep. "Santa Claus, he stuffed my stocking and there's presents under the tree. Lot's of presents." Wyatt could barely contain himself. He was so excited. "I have something for you, Mom and you too, Dad." "What is it?" Mom asked. "Marie helped me make them, here, open it up." Wyatt handed them a small package. "Rip it, Mom."

Lenox pov “You know, back home we have this thing we call Christmas. Do you have Christmas?” I ask Ragh to distract myself from the boredom of walking. “No,” he grumbles and glances at me. “What is that?” “Oh, it’s no biggie, only like the best damn day in the entire year, asshole!” I gasp. “You get loads of gifts, the best food and you spend time with your family near the fireplace while it’s freezing cold outside.”

Cheska was 12 years old, Francine was 10 years old and Alexis only 7 years old. "We are going for vacation. Kiss your mother goodbye." I said to them flatly. Marga started crying again but louder this time. Cheska the eldest of the three tried to comfort her, stroking her hair. "Your mama cannot go with us. She has work here. But grandmother needs us back home." I lied. I seldom do but it is always for the good of everyone. "it's okay Mama. You can come and visit us when your work is done, right Papa?" It was Francine.

" Look, I know about it because I felt it ." " What ?" " Chill. I made a guess which turned out to be true." Isla said and winked. " Christmas is coming." She said and I smiled. " Already got my stockings ready for Santa Claus." Isla said and I was forced to laugh. " Jeez , you believe in that crazy myth, Isla you're too old for that." " Come on , Santa isn't a myth." " I get it , you're trying to pull my legs." I said as we laughed.

Reaching out, she gave one of the girl’s pigtails a tug. “I promise, there will be lots of trees when we get into town. But remember, we’re getting a little one this year, okay?” Because of the Grinch and his aversion to all things festive. “I know! It’s like a fairy tree because it’s tiny and can go on a table to put in our room because Kaleb doesn’t like Christmas.” Her head tipped to one side. “How come he doesn’t, Mommy? Everybody likes presents. And Santa… And the reindeers, and Christmas trees filled with lights and all the merry stuff… How come, Mommy?”

“Now drink up…” “How is it that I don’t notice these things until the last minute?” Siel asked aloud, sipping from the large, steaming porcelain mug. The kids came back and then hugged V. They seemed to be tired, but right then, a familiar voice suddenly called out… “Hello, everyone! Welcome to our bonfire’s storytelling time!”, Myron announced in a louder and much more animated tone than his usual CEO’s Personal Assistant voice. “We have chosen ten stories from all of those that were submitted this Christmas, and we will be performing the selected ones in two parts. My beautiful wifey, Raquel, will help me with the voices and sound effects.”

“You have a grandmother?” “Yes, but back to santa. I do believe him, and he comes in the New Year with a female sidekick called the Snowmaiden,” Alexander told her. ‘But you can celebrate Christmas any way you want while you’re with me. I didn’t even know the festival existed until I went to live with my grandmother.”

Christmas felt more like a season for memories I’d rather forget. As I locked my car and walked past him, Mr. Jones cocked his head. "Not taking any time off for the holiday this year again, Miss Samantha? Always working, you are." I shook my head, pulling my scarf tighter. "Not my thing, Mr. Jones. Just another day as far as I’m concerned." “Well…” He looked at me with a sympathetic smile. “I always tell my kids, Christmas comes with its own miracles. Who knows? Maybe this year’s your lucky one.”

“Don’t be sorry, hon. You guys can kiss all you want, just so long as I don’t see either of you naked, it’s all good.” “Promise,” I said. “I’m going to get drinks, then we have to watch A Christmas Story.” “What’s that?” Kayla asked. “You’ve never seen A Christmas Story?” I asked in horror. “It’s like a tradition.” “We didn’t have a lot of those, baby,” Alex revealed. “Well, then we’re starting one tonight. Lily’s a little too young, but we’re not, so we’re going to watch the magic of one of the best Christmas movies of all time.”
