I didn't want to keep your book forever, so I’m making my own book. My own supernatural compilation.” Her matter-of-fact tone couldn't disguise the pride shining in her eyes, and I could tell she was thrilled with her project.

My eyes downcast, I turn my head to the side, looking away. Away from him. Away from the decision he wants me to make, but which I just can't. Not now, anyway. I can feel myself shaking. After a few seconds I hear Alastaire footsteps as he leaves the room. I take a moment to recover, slumping down to the floor. My leg hits against something. It’s the book that fell off the bookshelf a moment ago. I pick it up, noticing its beautiful emerald green color for the first time. It’s old – that much is obvious from the tattered spine with its ornate golden oak leaf pattern – but somehow the cloth cover has kept its vivid hue.

I picked up the letter and read the gibberish the best I could. “aperi hoc buxum,” I whispered. The box started heating up and I dropped it. It accidentally hit my left foot. It was so painful I fell on the floor. The box shimmered even more and it started ascending three feet in the air. I crawled away from it to the corner of my room. I watched it go two feet higher and get brighter. I closed my eyes, thinking it’s going to blow up. Eventually, I heard a loud thump. I opened my eyes and the box is on the floor. I got up and approached it slowly. The box was open. I dipped my hand in and reached for the content of the box. It looked like a gem, a red gem.

She joked and Amaranthe stuck her tongue out at her. It doubled Elizabeth over with laughter, “Yeah, Amar. I have never heard you say ‘fuck’ twice in one sentence.” She said, rubbing her stomach.
