Surprisingly, Cillian understood the look in Lucy’s eye. The corner of his mouth twitched as he said to the man in front of him with white hair, “My name is Cillian Sullivan. If there isn’t anything else, can I leave with my friend?” He made the request in a roundabout way, and the man could tell that they did not welcome him. He shrugged and let this be. It looked like this gentleman was quite uninteresting compared to that lady just now.

Elena Killian was already up and out of bed when I woke. At first I thought he had left me there alone, until I turned over and saw him sitting in the chair by the window. He was reading a paperback book that looked like a romance novel, clearly something left behind or planted in the room to encourage the happy couple who was staying there. He seemed to be enjoying himself by the color high in his cheeks and the smug look in his eyes. I cleared my throat and got his attention. But I knew in the depths of my being that there was no way Cillian would let me take Aiden’s place. “You don’t need to worry about your brother. You know he can take care of himself,” Cillian said as he tapped his finger to his forehead and gave me a quick smirk. “You said you weren’t spying,” I grumbled. “It’s kind of hard to block out your thoughts and feelings sometimes. It’s like you’re speaking into a bullhorn.” I should’ve known he would be able to read me like an open book. Even without our fated mate bond, Cillian had always been able to do that. It was as if he could read my facial expressions and know exactly what was going on in my mind.

“I can do this. Cillian will keep me safe.” Taking a deep breath, I opened the door to find Cillian leaning on the wall of the dim hallway. His eyes raked over my body as I stared at him shamelessly. He had taken a shower by the look of his damp hair that made his hair look darker and thicker, and his black shirt and pants that fit him like a glove. With revealing neck and forearm tattoos, he looked so fucking delicious. I wanted to have a quickie with him. Right now. “Come on, Emma,” he drawled, running a hand through his hair. I licked my lips at the sight of very few gray hairs lining his dark hair. I wanted to cling to them when he eats me out.

When everywhere got quiet for the last question to come up, I raised my head to see Killian standing, with a copy of my book in his hands. I forced down a lump in my throat.
