It was cold and lifeless. I can’t do it, she thought. I’m just a character made of ink. Then something moved in her pocket. It wasn’t the key. She reached into her other pocket and pulled out the dried lemon flower. Small and crumpled, it looked worthless. But when the shadow-spider’s thread touched it, the flower transformed into a sharp golden needle. Maya rammed the needle into the spider’s eye. The creature collapsed into a puddle of black ink. Gasping, Maya searched for Julian. He was tumbling away, just a flickering spark in the dark.

I think my eyes are brown but Cindy thinks otherwise. I don't know what I'd do without Cindy though. Cindy was a captive from a war between my pack and hers that occurred some years back. Her parents were the Beta and Beta Female so she doesn't have omega blood like I do. We became best friends when she came flying into my room, face first. I remember that day like it was yesterday. Cynthia and Damon were sitting silently in Damon's bedroom . They went there as it was getting colder outside . Kieran runs up to me and squats, clutching something between his hands. “What do you got?” I extend my palm to him, not knowing any better, and feel every fine, downy hair on my neck stand on end when he drops a live spider into my hand. I swallow my discomfort and give him a wobbly smile, nodding as I choke out, “Wow. That’s really cool, Kieran.” He darts away, and I viciously shake my hand free of the creeping, crawling sensation now taking over my body and causing my moonstone necklace to shine.

Because of Jake, the Moon Shine Pack Alpha's asshole son, the Alpha-heir. She was determined to be Luna of that pack but Jake had a Luna picked out already, and it wasn’t Cindy.
