THE CAPTAIN'S FAKE GIRLFRIEND
The handgun went skittering across the concrete floor toward my feet.
“Damon!” I screamed.
The gunman struck Damon across the face with a heavy tactical glove, shoving him off, and scrambled to his feet. Knowing he was outmatched by the SWAT team, the man turned and sprinted toward the dark loading bay exit, vanishing into the night.
Damon scrambled up, gasping for air, and gave chase. “Stop!”
“Damon, no!” I ran after him.
By the time I reached the open rear doors, Damon was standing under the pouring rain outside, his chest heaving up and down, looking into the empty, pitch-black woods.
