Blood had been cleaned from his skin, his wounds bound, but the darkness in his eyes was untouched. “She wasn’t choosing him,” Ash said carefully. “She was stopping the slaughter.” Rex didn’t respond. “She trusted you to come after her,” Ash continued. “That matters.” Rex’s hands curled slowly into fists. “He touched her.” Ash sighed. “Yes.” “And he thinks he can keep her.”

“We’ll see how long that fire of yours lasts.” As he reached out to grab me again, a deep growl resonated through the clearing. The leader of the rogues froze, his eyes widening in shock and fury. Out of nowhere, a massive wolf barreled into the clearing, knocking some rogues aside. I immediately recognized the Werewolf. It was the captain of the Storm pack's patrol team.

Captain Terry, a hardened guerrilla leader known for his ruthlessness, stepped forward, flanked by his men. They had come running at the sound of the explosions, ready to assist. Terry’s sharp eyes immediately took in the situation—the defeated Japanese soldiers, the bodies strewn about, and the few captives still alive. His jaw clenched with grim satisfaction.
