I knew I needed to clear my mind and find solace before the drama that awaited me tomorrow. A cold shower seemed like the remedy I sought, a chance to wash away the physical and mental fatigue that clung to me. I turned on the faucet, letting the water cascade over my body, the icy droplets soothing the restlessness that consumed me. Each droplet was a respite, a momentary escape from the swirling thoughts that plagued my mind.

Joel POV We woke up early again today and as much as I wanted to just stay in bed with Miranda’s legs wrapped around me, I knew how important this day was to her so I stumbled out of bed and into the shower, turning the water to cold to help wake me up. I got used to taking cold showers in prison anyways as the water is lukewarm on a good day, but never gets actually hot. I found out a few years ago when I was reading one of Shotgun’s men’s magazine, that there are actual health benefits to cold showers including boosting immunity, decreasing depression, and increasing circulation. I close my eyes and let the water run over me before soaping up with shampoo.

I was lucky if I got a minute shower back home and the water was always cold.
