Micca growls getting in the back seat with her. Mates. The thought has never occurred to me, but it is something that I need to learn. I turn eighteen in four months. I'll shift for the first time and I guess I've always known that being a wolf is a lot more complicated than just shifting. Especially being a warhead. Coming of age is starting get more and more annoying as it gets closer.

The darkness in the room comforted me a little, although I knew it was still pretty early and all the other girls in the room were still asleep it was good to know that no one could watch me be miserable. Last night had been the worst night of my life, which was saying a lot because working in Miss Tanya’s house guaranteed that every night was horrible but I had been hoping all of that would change last night. I had turned nineteen and performed my coming-of-age ritual and the heartbreak that had come when I walked out of the healer’s hut as a white omega wolf had been more devastating than losing my parents.

I never thought he would be this vulnerable with his emotions, but I know it’s because of the pup; he doesn’t care about me. “I want to lie down,” I said, resting my neck on his arm. He looked down at me, breathing out. “You need to have your bath first,” he said. I didn’t reply, I just closed my eyes. I never imagined my life would turn like this; it came as a shock to me. I'd spent weeks on it, really. I was ready to bring it up to him after the coming-of-age ceremony. I was certain that he would jump on board, and it wouldn’t be hard to leave too because he was the Alpha after all. We didn’t have to wait in line to get permission, until a slot opened in the pack outing schedule. And then the Coming-of-age ceremony disaster happened, the less said about it the better. I find it almost hysterical that after everything I’d gone through, and with the looming threat of death hanging over my head, at least I get to cross one thing off from my post-graduate bucket list.
