“Strength without control is useless. Now strike.” Steel clashed again and again. The rhythm was sharp and relentless. I watched every movement closely, correcting grips, kicking ankles apart when stances weakened, knocking blades aside when arms grew lazy. “The wolf shifters will hold their form until they feel their bones strain,” I commanded to another group shifting partially, claws extending while remaining upright. “You do not shift to escape pain. You shift to master it.” A growl echoed from one of the younger warriors as he forced himself through the transition. I did not soften.

I bit my lip as I side eyed him "What's that about?" Shane asks I shake my head. Little grin on my face. "Nothing. Don't worry about it." "Ok. You ready?" He folds his arms. I nod. "Call it." He looks to the clearing. "SHIFT!!" He growls. His eyes dark. My pack shifts and the trackers do their jobs. We all follow them out, eager for our next pound of steaming flesh.

The boy eagerly commanded his mech to move forward, only to trip and almost fall backwards as his mech's balance fell apart. Only until now did it sink in to him that having a gigantic rear wasn't all that good. He wrestled with his neural interface for several minutes, trying to find a running posture that wouldn't tip him backwards. He finally managed to accomplish a crude stance by bending his mech's torso forwards, which had the unintentional effect of making his rear more pronounced. "Who cares, as long as it works. I grabbed our clothes then tucked them into the bag and zipped it up. I leaned forward, hearing the quick snap and pops as I quickly shifted. My paws hit the ground as I fell forward onto all four paws. My shift happens quickly, almost in the blink of an eye. Most wolves who have mastered the ability to shift, shift that fast. Although some do shift faster than others, usually the Alphas, Betas and third in commands are the fastest shifters of all.

Then you are pretty close to knowing how it feels to shift for the first time. After you do it a few times, it becomes quicker and you don’t feel the pain at all. Charlie will be shifting in the clearing. I will be guiding him through it with pops. Pops said if needs be, he can command Valour to shift, but he would only do that if his shift becomes dire. A normal shift takes fifteen minutes, but it feels like an eternity. So I know this is going to be harder for him because he was a siren first.
