Pucking the Captain
I looked at Coach, seeing the sharp, calculating suspicion burning in his eyes, and I knew I had exactly three seconds to save my scholarship and Jaxson’s entire career.
If I told the truth right now, we’d both be off the team before the sun came up.
"It's nothing like that, Coach," I started, forcing my voice to stay steady even though my throat felt like it was lined with crushed glass.
I shifted my weight, trying to look more injured than guilty, and prayed he’d buy the act.
"Jaxson is just... he's the captain. He takes his job seriously, and I'm a highly touted draft pick. He's just hyper-protective because he doesn't want me getting targeted by dirty players or distracted by the media."
