The place looked forlorn and possibly dangerous, but the group knew that something even worse is awaiting them outside. At the far end of the cave shone a roughly hewn stone structure, that looked like the door to a certain room from which the blue light was emitting. Their feet splashed in the muddy water as they made their way towards it. Upon examining the stone tablet, they found some circular dugouts on it, and the same number of circular stone chips in a hollow rectangular hole near it. Clearly the chips were meant to be inserted in the dugouts. "But how-" Aelanor asked, as her eyes travelled around the cave, and so did Nimuel's, which were still full of tears.

"The mine entrance!" As we reached the entrance, I could see that it wasn't really a mine shaft. It was a tunnel that seemed to go down forever, with strange symbols carved into the walls. "Are you sure about this?" Jake asked nervously. "It's better than staying up here with the Shadow Master," Emma replied. Once a smile started to stretch his bearded face, I turned and started to catch up with Mikhail. He threw me a flashlight just as we boarded a vehicle. We drove into a tunnel that grew darker with each distance we covered. All around me, sweat slid down the faces of uniformed workers as they jammed their tools into the rocks, the steely sound of implements colliding with the hard surface filled the space along with the downpour of silt and rocks. Voices echoed around the wide cave. We bypassed men on ladders and a few more stooped on a pallet, relentlessly striking their pickaxes into the rocks.

Deep into the tomb, the dungeon was carved out of a mountain. With little ventilation, and no sunlight, it was hell on earth. At the mouth of the cave, two burning torches hung on a metal rack on either side of the stone walls. The two guards before us nodded at the rugged keepers of the dungeon, Octavius and Lucius, and headed back to the keep. They retrieved them, and led the way into the dark dungeon.

Jo found it odd but didn’t have an explanation for it, unless it was because this was the queen’s part of the cave. The tunnel opened up into another large cavern, but this one did not appear to be bored through the rock. Rather, it appeared to be a natural cavern. Stalactites and stalagmites reached for one another, though she was never sure which was which. The cave was cast in a strange orangish light that seemed to be coming from the ground, though Jo didn’t see any lights. Vampires were tricky creatures, though. Who knew how they’d managed to make the room look illuminated without actually putting in a light fixture.

The realisation hit hard. The barrier cracked, light shattered, and darkness seeped in. The cave began collapsing. “Everyone out!” Jacob shouted. Lucas grabbed James. “Move!” Zack grabbed Zoe’s arm. “We need to go!” Zoe didn’t move. Her eyes were locked on Morgana. “No.” Zack frowned. “Zoe—”

The ground was paved with slate bridges, and under the bridges was boiling hot lava.

Suddenly, his eyes caught a crowd with children, his brow furrowed as he approached them. A young child ran up to him, his hands pointing in the cave, "There is a monster, uncle!" Lake, he chuckled and patted the little one on the head. Indeed, he did not believe in things that are now crowded, completely distrustful. Then he hunkered down, "Go play, and forget about the monster." The little boy quickly led his friends away from the quiet, among the others. At first, Lake wanted to go but the steps stayed. He turned for a moment at the dark door and then walked toward it.
