"How are you today?" A smile played on my lips as I settled onto one of the worn seats in front of the counter. "I am good, Grace. How are you?" Grace's warm smile widened. "Eh, I am good. What can I get for you today?" After placing my order, I found myself engaged in a heartfelt conversation with Grace. Time seemed to slow down as I shared my dreams of becoming a writer, the struggles I had overcome, and the burning desire to create something meaningful. She listened attentively, interweaving her own tales of perseverance and resilience amidst the challenges she had faced.

Ashleigh, determined to clear the air with Adrian about his strange behavior towards Chef Larry, hurried up the stairs. Spotting him engrossed in a call as he neared his study, she sprinted down the hall to intercept him. Adrian, deeply involved in his conversation, didn't register Ashleigh's approach until she practically dashed in front of him, halting his progress towards the study door. "Wait! Want to hear a joke?” I laughed shaking off the heaviness of the conversations "Sure hit me” She launched into a ridiculous story about a goose that somehow got stuck in a wedding cake and by the time she was done I was laughing so hard my sides hurt. Once the laughter died down we slipped into a more relaxed conversation. I told her about the explosion at the HQ. “Have you heard anything new about it?"

He replied. "But I don't want you to go" She said with a pout . "I have to and I will be back before you know it . I love you"He kissed her forehead and they marched out together . She went back inside to the kitchen to cook lunch but then she saw her cousin's call. She contemplated whether to pick or not. She dropped the phone on the kitchen counter and proceeded to the sink when the phone rang again making her to hiss. "Hello" She answered with a hint of annoyance. " Aww, is that how to talk to your favorite"Her cousin, Khadija said . "What do you want mama ,if you annoy me I will annoy you too" Nafisa cautioned.

“You’d never hear the end of it.” We order food. Something simple again. For a while we keep the conversation light. Travel stories. The strange habits of people in different cities. The fact that Katy once got stranded in Prague because she forgot which day her flight was. “I didn’t forget,” she argues. “You missed the flight.” “Details.” “You slept through it.” “Technicalities.” I laugh, shaking my head. “You’re unbelievable.” “You say that like you’re shocked.” Eventually the conversation slows. The candle between us flickers gently in the warm evening air.

Peter rolled his eyes, but he looked lighter than he had all week. They talked about nothing that mattered and everything that did. Brett told a story about a dog that stole a sandwich from his backpack and then followed him for two blocks. Peter admitted he’d once dropped a hymnbook on his foot during choir rehearsal and tried not to swear. The conversation flowed effortlessly, from work to personal stories.
