“I—” The doors pushed open. “Breakfast is here!” A voice tore through the haze, jerking me backwards as Atlas turned to Louise's grinning form pushing in a cart. “Jesus, Louise,” Atlas huffed, “what happened to knocking first?” She eyed him, gaze drifting to me and back to him. “I forgot to mention—you have a guest.” “Yes, I know that.” Atlas snapped. “No, no,” she shook her head, “not this guest.” My stomach clenched, dread burrowing in my bones as she said,

But she carefully stored all her equipment and supplies in what appeared to be custom storage containers. Gabby couldn’t do more than block windows and the section of the back garden from the guests as there wasn’t time to cancel bookings and she wouldn’t evict guests in the middle of their stay. They were so focused and on edge that when a woman accidentally bumped into a waiter, causing him to drop a few things, all of them instantly looked in that direction, hands almost reaching for their weapons. In that brief moment of distraction, the person who had just arrived at the restaurant slipped toward the restroom unnoticed.
