I could see the fire in his eyes, feel his anger coursing through his veins. He attempted to sit up and adjusted our position just enough for me to land my knee straight to his genitals. His thoughts were complete agony laced with fury. My death was the only thing on his mind and then pain, sheer and utter pain at the loss of his brother. Crippling pain even, enough that the knee to his nuts, while didn’t really hurt him, startled him enough causing him to let my hair go, which gave me just enough time to roll backwards and off of him.

The king of Guhu asked. “Yes my king.” He said, as he stared at the king intently. Cornell was filled with anger, he wanted to slit the kings throat, and give his body to the dogs, to eat. “king? Disgusting.” Cornell whispered under his breath.

The auditorium was stuck in horrified stillness for several suspended moments as the words seemed to reverberate through the stagnant air like lingering shrapnel. Then, as if a flare had gone off, the room erupted in a deafening swell of heated discourse, with conversations exploding in a frenzied jostle to analyze the consequences, dispute the merciless protocols, and just absorb the grandeur of what had just occurred. "Can you fucking _believe_ this outdated initiation ritual bullshit they're putting us through?" Mia hissed beside Lila, clearly disgusted. "It's like something out of goddamn the nation of Pane - pitting all the districts against each other in some sick, contrived Hunger Gam

Everyone is starving. Cyrus read the messages and smirked. He did not bother replying. 'Let them stew in guilt and hunger a little longer. Maybe I should let them burn off their last bit of usefulness as a suicide squad.' He touched his chin, thinking. 'A couple of moldy bread pieces and they would fight each other to volunteer.' Then his phone chimed. Several sharp ding-dong tones lit up the screen. That struck him as odd since he kept most group chats muted.

“Are they really going to just let me fall back?” That's actually... cause me a sigh of relief. I'm tired by the eyes that following my every steps! Chapter 164 ** Josie’s POV ** Cornelius stands in the centre, dressed in black and wearing a bulletproof vest. He looks as arrogant as hell whilst he laps up the attention of his worshipers. People cheer and clap, drowning out the booing from outside the park fence. I look around at all the people, there are a full range from babies to elderly and I hate that they have no idea who this guy is and that they are just unwitting pawns in a game they never chose. We have to free them, we are their last line of defence. We swore we would save this realm and we are about to prove it, no matter the cost.

The other end picked up and I said I need a donor now. My office was only a few blocks away and it took all my willpower to make it there and not suck the life out of some random person on the street. When I made it to my office my donor was waiting for me and I didn’t hesitate and took her in my arms and sunk my teeth right into her flesh, trying to stop the hunger that was taking over inside of me. I drank until I felt the body in my arms losing conscience and knew I had to stop or I was going to kill her but the hunger inside of me wasn’t even remotely satisfied. I pulled away and laid the body onto the floor and made another call for another and a cleanup crew.

Daphne turned to me, her voice in a pleading way. But Cornelius smiled, not the type of warm kind, but the type that a predator could give to a prey. “Take the deal, or stay here in this room, and do as I say.” The room fell silent, and my blood roared in my head like a storm. I could feel Lior’s growl of resentment deep inside me, “rip his throat out. Kill him!” I looked from Cornelius’s smug face to Daphne’s conflicted one, then back to the ugly collar in his hands.. I understand what Cornel wanted me to do.
