Once Upon a Tryst
On its surface is a medieval representation of a dragon, its wings inlaid with mother of pearl, and its eyes are tiny sapphires.
“I was given this medallion when I came of age,” I explain. “It is an antique, and it has been passed down in my family for generations.” I pause, looking into her eyes so that she understands how important this is for me. “The symbol on the front is my family crest. It is intended to be given to my future wife.”
Her breath catches. “Wife?”
“Yes.” I look away, my own heart racing, ready to leap into the bay. “Please. Say you will accept it.”
