I try to breathe, but it feels like all the air’s been pushed out of the room.
Aaron steps forward, but I lift a hand to stop him.
“No,” I say. “Let them talk.”
Because maybe they’re right.
Maybe I have lost perspective.
Maybe I’ve spent so much time trying to survive the trials, trying to make sense of Asher, of Aaron, of myself… that I forgot what I’m even fighting for.
But I’m trying.
