So, they can find more beautiful things in fiction"

You inquired, arching your eyebrows. "I would adore spending more time with you, Mia.” I agreed, and you beamed with joy. As our connection deepened, your breath grew heavy, and a charged atmosphere enveloped us. The anticipation lingered in the air as our lips drew closer, our proximity sending shivers down our spine. With tender affection, I pressed a gentle kiss against your cheek, savouring the sweetness of the moment. It was a tender gesture that spoke volumes of the growing love between us. Arielle rolled her eyes but smiled faintly. “Suit yourself.” She wandered into a bookstore nearby. The cool smell of paper and wood filled the small space. For the first time all day, she felt relaxed. No tense silences. No careful conversations. Just quiet. After twenty minutes she returned outside with a book in her hands. Roman glanced at the cover. “Romance?” “Absolutely not.” “Looks suspicious.” “It’s historical fiction.” “Same thing.” Arielle laughed despite herself. “You’re impossible.” Roman opened the car door again.

Not close enough to invade his space, but enough that he had to tilt his head slightly to keep looking at me. This close, I noticed things I hadn’t before. The silver flecks hiding inside his gray eyes. The faint flush on his cheeks from the whiskey. The way his breathing wasn’t nearly as steady as he probably wanted me to believe. His cologne lingered between us. Clean, subtle, comforting. He smelled… inviting. “What are you doing?” he asked. I glanced down briefly. At his lips. They were slightly parted and they looked soft. I smirked. “What do you think I’m doing?”

Like I’m not just Zoe the nurse, but Zoe, a woman with needs, with heat coiling low in my belly just from the way he looks at me. “Long shift?” His voice is deep, smooth, wrapping around me like a promise. I swallow, my fingers tightening around my coffee cup. “You have no idea.” He steps closer, close enough that I catch the scent of his cologne….something rich and spicy, like cedar and sin. His thigh brushes against mine under the table, just for a second, but it’s enough. My breath hitches. My skin prickles with awareness. “You deserve a break,” he murmurs, his breath warm against my ear. A shiver runs down my spine. “Or maybe something more.”
