Ralta turned back to him, smiling. “Do tell, sir.” He said the sir as a slight mock, but he’d known the scribe for over a decade. The old one didn’t delight in bad tales.
“When the creatures retreated, I know I saw a few of them carrying bodies with them.”
“Why on earth would they do that?”
Gaius sat back and rubbed his eyes. “It is in the height of night, not morning, but these creatures are smart and think a bit ahead. Maybe they were hungry.”
