The word hung there, the red glistening wetly. My hand clenched at my side. “Of course,” I whispered. GIRL followed, the letters a little more hurried, as if the writer was getting into the rhythm now. Then, beneath, in a larger, looping script: CURSED WOLF. I swallowed. Hard. The room felt smaller. The air, colder. COME TO ME BEFORE THE NEXT BLOOD MOON… The ink—blood?—seeped down the glass in thin rivulets, pooling at the bottom edge of the frame.

A laugh threatened, fonder this time. "Yes," she insisted. "Not the 'you're about to have a panic attack so I'm going to shove you in a study' tour. A real one. I want to know where I am. Where I can do. Where I shouldn't. What doors lead to creepy places... with creepy things." "Creepy things?" I arched a brow. Savannah pointed at the ceiling as if the house walls could listen. "This place is full of wolves and magic and... and... telepathic group chats! I'm allowed to assume there are creepy things."

Caitlyn awoke with a start, her heart racing and her breath sharp in her chest. The remnants of the dream clung to her like a fog she couldn’t shake. In the darkness of her mind, flashes of an ancient, buried temple had danced before her eyes. She saw a chained wolf, its eyes glowing with a deep, unnerving hunger, surrounded by an endless blackness. And then, her own reflection—a version of herself that wasn’t quite right—whispering, “It’s not over.”

The chilling fear gripped her, paralyzing her body and clouding her thoughts. In the pitch-black abyss, Storm’s imagination ran wild. She could hear the faint sound of her own breath, an eerie reminder of her vulnerability. Every creak and groan of the house seemed to echo through the corridors, magnifying her dread. Was Lucy awake? Who was walking around the house? The air felt thick and heavy, as if a malevolent presence lurked just beyond her sight. As her eyes strained to adjust to the darkness, her mind played tricks on her. Shadows danced and twisted, morphing into grotesque figures that seemed to mock her fear.

It infuriated Cassy more—with the night that’s the homecoming of the ghosts and horrors. A wicked laugh itched to be out, instead, she scrutinized the height. The distance between her and the ground did not harrow her. It amazed her at how different she’s lurking around where the normal people might not even stare without a wave of nausea washing over them. An urge to smoke-filled her; she fetched a pack from the inside pocket of her dark blue jacket; ignited the flame, mumbling, “Every legendary story is a pent-up frustration of human beings to invoke fear in the minds of those whom they hate. Several against one or one against many.”

Emma willed her legs to move as she felt around for a wall. She hadn’t been able to see much of anything when she had first entered the crypt, and now that she was sealed in, she was surrounded by a stygian darkness. She bumped into something solid and stone-like, and immediately crouched down on the floor in a fetal position. Her body shook, her lips trembled and her mind conjured creepy-crawlies, fantastic monsters, and demons of all shapes and sizes. And they came, one and all in full force, to crawl over her skin, to nip and paw at her, and to literally pull her to pieces.
