A cold chill swept over her and her temples throbbed. She carefully placed the ribbon down the interior binding of the pages and closed the book shut. The crystal didn’t look quite so out of place as it lay against the bottom of the pages. In fact, there was so much room between the size of the cover and the size of the pages that crystal tucked right up into the gap when she set the book on end. It was a perfect fit.

But she did not realize how quickly it could turn into nighttime. "The sun was up just a moment ago," she whispered. "Seconds ago, actually. Why is it slowly turning nighttime already? This is too--" her whole body jolted as a book popped out right in front of her. It glowed, as if inviting Verena to open the pages under the moon that is slowly coming up to its place. "The cursed book," she whispered. "Why the hell is this here? How could this book follow me in my dream?" "Am I draping or is this..."

Just a crescent white moon etched in the center of the cover. My fingers close around it. It’s cold. I glance back at Alex and Ava. They’re speaking in low voices, Alex watching her like a hawk. Good. I open the book, flipping through pages quickly. Hand written text in cursive with black and white pictures of symbols, and unknown diagrams fills the worn page. I squint my eyes and look through the small text until I find what I'm looking for. Mana Wolves. The words almost glow on the page. My heart skips a beat. This is it.

The book thrummed a final time, and each beat extended the world as if time and space itself were bending. There came a point where the two characters, the one holding the book who looked so much like him and the one resembling Lucifer, stopped, standing amidst the ruins, facing each other with their chests pressed together. Both were covered with blood and held their wings closed. Yet their breathing was intermingling. “It can’t be stopped,” cried the man holding the book, his voice shaking in rage and desperation. “I don’t have to stop it,” Lucifer whispered, pressing closer. “I just want to be with you.”

She looked into her book. "Are you done for the day?" She turned back. It was Lucus "What are you doing here? Aren't you done for the day?" She asked "I work day and night, unlike angels of heaven like you" He said. His book began shining and he disappeared again. She looked at her Grecabulum which shone bright. "Oh! Somebody managed to change their Fate, huh?" She looked into it and grasped as she read it "I should probably keep this a secret."

The air smelled clean, the lights warm, the shelves tall and perfect. “Choose the book that pulls you,” the woman said. “It will tell you what you need.” She vanished into the shadows. I walked along the shelves. My hand stopped on one book, not because I liked it, but because something in me reacted. A strange pull. The title was old, written in faded ink:” The Nature of the Cursed: shifters of the Moon.” My fingers trembled as I opened it. Inside were sketches, human shadows twisted into wolves, claws emerging from the hands, glowing eyes in the darkness. I swallowed hard.

Blood welled from a tiny cut on her palm, a cut that hadn't been there before, and dripped onto the ledger's cover. The book absorbed the blood like parched earth drinking rain, then it began to glow. Silvercrest runes materialized across the cover, shifting and rearranging themselves. With a soft click, the book fell open to the first page.

The crescent moon smiles down below. Ignorant of the world below. The stars glow, and the moon shines. A tear falls from your eye. The moon smiles a slim, thin grin. Now our story truly begins. Chapter Three: Secrets Revealed “Angelica, you need to calm down,” Astra called from her broom as she descended from the sky and jumped to the ground. Her broom collapsed into a pocket-sized hand broom. Angelica growled at Astra as she moved to a lunge to attack. Astra grabbed the broken necklace from the ground, and it turned into a magic lasso. She dodged Angelica’s attack as the lasso wrapped around angelicas neck, forming a new chain.
