Even the vampires, who bowed to no living thing, dipped their heads in acknowledgment. A crown was brought forth not the heavy gold circlet I had worn, not a symbol of dominion and divine right, but something entirely different. It was woven from moon-silver that seemed to glow with its own light and phoenix feathers that burned without consuming, a crown that represented unity rather than supremacy, service rather than rule, balance rather than power.

The grand duke, his eyes ablaze with fervor, addressed the butler with an air of authority, "How goes the party, caleb?" The butler, his features marked with a grave solemnity, reported, "Prince Addison has made an announcement. He intends to crown Chiara Windsor, the daughter of Dominic Windsor, as the empress." Upon hearing this, Lucas arched an eyebrow as he sipped his tea, his mind racing with thoughts of Elen Windsor and her rumored powers, her unwavering loyalty to her family, and her purported status as a fairy. He moved closer to Beta Roy and held him by the shoulder. "Your daughter is not fit for the crown of a Luna and i would advice that you don't ever mention this issue to me again" Feathers warned with a stern look and turn around to go back to his seat.

The veil on my face fell to the floor, and my long hair scattered over my face, changing my look from a bride to a widow. Loud gasps erupted from the crowd. Jasper didn’t bother to help me, nor did anyone so I pushed my self up, leaving the veil to lie in the middle of the altar. Ferro held the crown in my hand to which I was to go over and place on Jasper’s head as he knelt before me. “The crown’s fate rests on your hands.” Ferro said to me, his hands holding the crown stretched out for me. I took the crown with my left hand, letting the hand fall carelessly to my side. With a possessed stare I turned, walking back to Jasper. I still ignored the veil.

“The witch is dead, her blood is gone, my father’s lab is next, we burn it, we break the rest of his work, you get your minds back.” Murmurs. Hope. Draven steps to me, careful. “The crown,” he says. “Can you take it off.” I touch it. It burns. “I don’t know.” “Try,” he says. “For me.” I pull. Pain rips through my skull, and the crown comes away, blood on the tines. It crumbles to ash in my hand. The ferals gasp, some falling, some crying, as if a string got cut.

Mission accepted. My jewellery is onyx and silver, dark and glossy against my skin. Finally, Mum places the black crown gently on my head. It’s made of delicate metal vines and onyx stones, shaped to look like it grew right out of the shadows. And it completes me. I don’t just look like a queen—I look like his queen. “You’re absolutely stunning,” Mum says, adjusting the crown like she’s placing it on actual royalty. “Caden’s going to pass out.” “Good,” I smirk. “Let the man suffer.”

“Vampires? And this… this is not from the Feather clan nor the Wingsman clan.” She traced the pad of her fingers on the feathers. The feathers were slightly unique. It was pointy and rough around the edge. It was somewhat larger than either clan. The Feather clan consisted of numerous bird feathers and the Wingsman clan’s feathers were limited only to their wings. There were striking differences between the Feather clan's and the Wingsman clan’s feathers. The differences were also prominent.

The crown caught fire right in front of my eyes. “Why fire?!” I gasped loudly. It was not the usual flame—but a strange, silken one, golden and blue, rising without burning the air. It twisted around the crown like it was testing whoever dared to claim it. My pulse quickened and Phina shouted in my mind, “If that fire consumed the crown, the entire trial would be meaningless!” I had to get it.
