Atrocious sighed heavily, picked up the orb, and muttered a spell. The orb became surrounded by a mist of emerald color, and an obscure figure appeared within it. "It's a curse. Your brother, the Alpha King, is cursed."

She changed everything in the kingdom including my mom's simple recipe for the royal family. I knew the moment she stepped into the grand ballroom hall with her red bareback dress as my father took her hand for a dance on the night of his birthday, my life would change. It would gradually change. But I had no idea that change was dreadful for when I turned ten, I was banished when the high priest announced to everyone at dinner, "The Alpha King's heir curse is a threat to our pack. His cure can only be found in the human world!" At that time, my stepmother was already carrying his seed, the next in line to the throne.

Remembering made me shudder. He gave me a sharp look. "You heard them? Felt them?" "I - Yes, I think so." I stepped closer to him, suddenly afraid. I knew nothing about where I was. Leo placed his hands on my bare arms. "Those are the Cursed. They are creatures who turned their backs on Polonias and the goodness of the magic in the land. They are like the demons of your world. Some are desperate for a way out of the darkness, while others seek to pull unsuspecting travelers in. They are the cause of the Sickness." He shook his head. "Did you understand them?"

My spirit will haunt you until the end of your days!” Her voice echoed off the high ceilings, raw and haunting, before collapsing into a fit of coughing. Even in the grip of death, Carla poured every remaining ounce of her will into the curse.

The ‘curse’ that befell the Lycan King’s wife on the day of the last summit was never a curse, but rather a lethal dose of a very dangerous herb known as ‘toxic ashroot’. The berries that the Lycan Queen ate that day were coated in an extract from this herb, with a dose so high that it killed her almost instantly. I believe that you are being dosed with this herb in small amounts, so as to kill you slowly. I am afraid, from the sound of your symptoms, that there is already too much of the herb in your body to cure you.
