**Gabe's POV** Warm blood fell over my hands and from her mouth as she let out a surprised cry of pain. And then I twisted them viciously. She let out another cry of pain. Then I pulled my claws from her stomach to shred them into her chest. Blood sprayed from the gash, painting the walls of the cave in a gruesome symphony of crimson and black. Because the blood spurting forth from her mouth was black, not red. “Gabe…you’re…killing me!” she choked out.

Their faces were unreadable but full of meaning she didn’t yet understand. Marco guided her to her father’s office on the second floor. The door was open, and she smelled the blood before she saw the body. It was the metallic scent she knew well from the ER, but she had never expected to smell it in her childhood home. Her father sat motionless in his desk chair, head tilted back, eyes open and empty. A clean bullet hole marked the center of his forehead. Another wound in his chest had soaked through his shirt and pooled darkly on the desk.

The smell of blood mixed with decay hit him like a wave, making him frown involuntarily. His face paled when he saw the dark red chunks of flesh mixed with bits of bones in the bag, hands trembling as he gripped the bag. "This…they're truly monsters!" Zack said, his tone filled with pity. After putting on gloves, he carefully took all the chunks of flesh and bits of bones out of the bag. "This is just too cruel!" Zack's eyes reddened, looking beyond enraged. Seeing him like this, I suddenly recalled how, three years ago, his eyes were just as red in anger—all because I was kneeling at the door, begging him not to kick me out.
