“Not just the hockey player. You. And I know you’ll bounce back. You always do.”
Her words washed over me, cutting through the frustration still coiled in my chest. I leaned forward, resting my elbows on my knees, and let out a slow breath. “You make it sound like it’s simple.”
“Not simple,” she corrected, smiling softly. “But possible.”
I turned to look at her, really look at her, and the weight in my chest loosened another notch. “You always know what to say.”
“Perks of being your girlfriend,” she teased lightly, bumping her shoulder against mine.
