Taken couldn't stand to be near normal people without killing them, so if one of us was safe, we all were. He was dressed in dark grey, with leather boots and a matching utility belt that hung at his waist. A gun sat at each hip, separated by a flashlight and a short sheathed knife. I looked up at his face and cringed. His skin was the tannest I'd ever seen, his blue eyes sharp and cold. He had a half sun tattooed on the side of his face, stretching from his right temple down to the tip of his jaw. "Where are you headed?"

As the tower burned behind them, they escaped into the rain, data in hand, bleeding but alive. Back at the safehouse, adrenaline still pumping, they barely made it through the door before tearing each other’s clothes off again. When he noticed me looking at his body, he shrugged.

Kael’s voice boomed from the walls, layered and ancient. Leo didn't wait. He lunged. He didn't use lightning. He used Deletion. He slammed his small, radiant hand into Ryan’s bionic chest, aiming to erase the logic that kept the cyborg standing. But Ryan didn't flinch. He raised his carbon-fiber hand, the violet glow in his palm matching Leo’s static. BZZZT. The energy collided and neutralized. Ryan had been built to be the anti-resonance.
