He swallowed hard, gaze unfocused, as if he were staring through the room and into something I couldn’t see.
“Don’t trust…” His breath caught. “The man in gray.”
My stomach tightened. “Dad, what do you mean?”
But he didn’t answer. His eyes rolled shut, and the monitors steadied again into their rhythmic pulse.
I sat there, frozen, my heart pounding in my ears.
The man in gray.
It could mean anyone. A shadow in a hallway. A stranger. A memory.
But my mind, without hesitation, went to Daniel.
