Rain asked, actually stopping to turn and look behind her, not that she could see much staring into the blinding light of Mist’s flashtube. “I guess so. Wait until we get to the border of Michaelanburg and Oklasaw. The remnants of a huge city that was mostly destroyed in the war are still there.” Rain turned back around, not wanting to be blinded anymore. “What city is that?” “It was called Dallas Fort Worth before,” she replied. “Now, it’s called Dafo. But it’s pretty far away. It’ll take us days to get there on foot, especially if we’re having to dodge Mothers the entire time.”

“OK,” she said quietly. She’d been expecting this, after all, and as usual, Dallas just cut to the chase. “Out in the hall?” “Yeah. Let’s grab a bad coffee and chat.” Despite her tension, she managed a smile. “Bad coffee, huh?” “The worst, I swear,” Dallas groaned. He was a hardcore coffee-lover, and he took the hospital coffee almost as a personal insult. They walked down the hall to the vending machine and Dallas got them both coffees. Then he led her to the waiting room, settled them down on chairs far away from the others in the space. He sipped his coffee, grimaced.

The carved pillars, the intricate arched windows, and the massive double doors leading inside stood proudly, a testament to the history within. The early morning light bathed the library in a golden hue, and a soft breeze rustled the trees lining the sidewalk, carrying the faint scent of old books and fresh ink.

It’s less intimidating than wearing Dallas’s jersey, less eye-catching for the masses. The only person who knows this hoodie belongs to Dallas is Ford, even if it is terribly oversized on him. Glancing around, she realized that the corridors were mostly empty and only one person sat inside the library as well.
