We walked out of the repair shop, as I headed to the car. "We can walk around the city if you want to look around?" Dallas asked, heading down the street with his hands in his pockets. I went away from the car and walked beside him. Shuffling my bag with my books, that had already been annotated this morning. Until we passed a bookstore, and then I begged Dallas to come inside with me. And he finally gave in. I went to my favorite section as he passed through the mystery section, stuck on a singular book. "So you like mystery?" I asked him, as his fingers flailed the book inside his fingers as he tried to grasp it properly.

"I want to see Bella today. Is she okay?" "She's fine, but I can't make you meet just yet." Dallas pointed to his leg, treated only sparingly due to limited medical equipment, and his head. "I still need to go to the hospital and check my other limbs for any problems. I'll rest, then we'll talk." "Do you need company?" I asked again, not completely giving up on seeing Arabella. Maybe Dallas would let me when we spoke again at the hospital. Dallas looked at me reluctantly. "I'm tired of seeing you all day. Go away, I won't break my promise."

Quinlan finally answers. Dallas jumps out of my lap and walks toward the bookshelves that are to my left. She pulls the ladder with her to stop somewhere in the middle and starts to climb up. She grabs a book from the highest shelf, before she climbs down again with it and turns it around once she is on the floor again. The title of the book is The Elders and Their Duties. “I think we might find some answers in here.” Dallas says before she sits down on my lap again.

Darryl was stunned. The library was a majestic building, not far from where they were standing. When Hexad’s was established, the most famous building was the library. The impressive library housed countless books covering all topics, including—but not limited to—astronomy, geography, and history. It was open to all students at any time. What sort of reward was this? Anyone could enter the library even if they did not donate! Observing Darryl’s expressions, Katherine could read his mind. She laughed and asked seriously, “Were you thinking that the reward was a little sketchy?”

On Monday morning, Olivia sat in the Solid Security offices, sipping a cup of coffee and feeling very impressed. Dallas had chosen to set up his business in a former factory, and the space was massive. High ceilings and lots of open-plan areas, several private offices and two conference rooms. There was even an interrogation space – quite forbidding in its starkness – with an observation room behind the two-way, bullet-proof glass.

“Yes, Alpha. You just asked me that five minutes ago. I told you I saw him heading toward the library with Beta Balfour.” Dallas’s blood turned to ice. “What did you say?” “You… you asked me the same question. Just a few minutes ago. Don’t you remember?” She was backing away now, clearly frightened by the look on Dallas’s face. “You were heading upstairs toward the eastern wing.” Dallas was already running before she finished speaking. Someone who looked like him had been asking about Carter. Someone who had somehow gotten access to the mansion, who knew the layout, someone who could pass for Dallas from a distance.

We were not even making noise for crying out loud. And why is she glaring at me? It's Dax who was talking, not me.

Finally, I got up and left my room, guided by an inexplicable need to move, to find something that would give me back the control I felt I was losing. When I reached the library—a place that was usually empty at this hour—I was surprised to find Dax sitting on one of the black leather sofas. He was leaning forward, a glass of whiskey in his hand and an unusually serious expression on his face. “What are you doing here so late?” I asked, stopping at the entrance. He lifted his gaze and gave me that signature lopsided grin of his, though this time, it seemed forced. “I could ask you the same thing, princess. Trouble sleeping?” he replied, nodding toward the sofa across from him.

Without even meaning to, girls could mess with a boy’s head. When I got out of my truck, I saw Dallas watching Liz on the other side of the gate. I did my best to stay quiet as I walked up behind her. Dallas didn’t hear me pull up. As soon as I got close enough, I slapped Dallas hard on the ass. “Ow!” Dallas turned around and shoved me in the chest. “Nice ass, baby,” I said and smirked. “You're in a good mood?” she questioned. I chuckled. “Should I not be in a good mood?”

The human tank nodded; the women nodded back – “Dillon, and Dallas.” Sarah, Mirrie, Naomi, Gabi and Maria all smiled at the last two men more readily than Val or Tank. They knew Dillon well, of course, because he was Maria’s boyfriend, and although they’d never met Dallas Foreman in the delectable flesh before, they had heard about him from the guys. King especially had talked to Naomi about him, since King and Dallas had teamed up and joined forces on more than one occasion. “Ladies,” Dallas said now in a deep Texan drawl that seemed designed to just stop the female heart. “It’s a pleasure.”
