Dax, beside Mia, was very quiet.
She looked at him. The gauntlet on his left arm had come back to life, the liquid-chrome flowing again in its channels, the iridescent blue pulsing in the pattern she had learned to read as naturally as a heartbeat. He was looking at his right hand, turning it slowly, watching the Code-Born energy move beneath the skin in the way that water moves beneath ice.
"Louder again," he said.
"Yes," she said.
