Outside the door, the sound of boots echoed—heavy, fast, and approaching. ​Dante moved to the side of the door, his weapon raised. He looked like a shadow come to life. ​"Dante, there’s too many of them," I breathed, clutching Leo to my chest. ​"Then I’ll just have to make more room in hell," he growled. ​The door burst open. ​Dante didn't wait. He fired three rounds with surgical precision. The suppressed thuds were followed by the heavy collapse of bodies in the hallway. He didn't flinch. He didn't even blink. The flames grew and emitted the darkest smoke when the shadow vampires fanned it and threw more wood and coals into it.
