My heart was pounding so hard I could feel it in my ears. “Where is he?” I muttered under my breath. “Patience,” Alisander said. “He’s the Alpha. He doesn’t just wander out.” Before I could snap back, a hush fell over the crowd. I looked up, and there he was. Darius stepped onto the raised platform at the front of the courtyard, his broad frame silhouetted against the flickering torchlight. My breath hitched. He was wearing a dark green tunic that made his eyes stand out even more, and his long dark hair was pulled back, showing off the sharp lines of his face. He raised a hand, and the crowd went dead silent.

I could see the gears turning in his head He walked closer, invading my personal space until all I could smell was rain and expensive leather. He reached out and tilted my chin up with a rough finger, inspecting my face like I was a horse at an auction. "You have good bone structure," he muttered to himself. " Under the dirt." "Let go of me," I hissed, pulling back. "You need the Moonfire Orchid," Darius said, his voice low and dangerous. " I need a shield." "A... shield?"

Cocking his head to the side, the black shades sat lazily on the bridge of his nose — the only thing lax about him. Alina just stared. Too freighted by him and the men who stood like statues behind his frame. “Do you not talk little miss?” He questioned. His voice lacked any kind of warmth. Not like she expected warmth from a man that looked as cold as a freaking glacier. “W-Who A-Are you?” Alina managed to croak out. Darius smiled down at her. And this time she felt the tiniest bit relaxed. “Your father's closest friend and your godfather. Now tell me Alina, would you sit and rot there or would you direct that fire behind your eyes in the right direction?”

It was clear that Alistair had earned Darius's admiration through his dedication and perseverance. Darius continued his narrative, painting a picture of Alistair's pack. "Alistair's pack is quite impressive," he began, his tone filled with admiration. "They're larger than ours, consisting mostly of werewolves, but they also have a significant number of different shifters among them." He paused for a moment, collecting his thoughts before continuing. "One of the unique aspects of Alistair's pack is their involvement in mining," Darius added. "They own several mines in the region, which provides them with a substantial source of income and influence."

Of all the names whispered in half-forgotten stories, Kaela’s had always sounded more like myth than flesh. The one who had stood when the packs were still wild, who had carved a den out of chaos. To see her now, eye to eye— She forced herself not to stare. The scarred male thumped his chest. “I am Darius,” he said. “Alpha in the age of the Red Famine. I kept this pack alive when food was bone and frost chewed our tails.” “And I,” the frost-haired woman said, “am Seris. Last Nexus before you. Oracle of the Blood Moon. I held the Moonstone when it nearly split from overuse.”

I swim over to Mae and pull her up to the little space that’s left between the ceiling of the room and the mass of water. “What are you doing, Xander?” “Give me your jacket!” I pull it off her and swim over to the source of the voice. It’s Darius. He takes it from me and we swim to the bottom. I see Xaden dive right after us. The second the hole in the ridgeline between the floor and the wall is clogged, the water stops rising. Darius Raken is still distracted. Xaden comes from behind and breaks his neck. The Founder's body drops to the floor as we swim up for air through the bloody water.

Azrael stayed longer until the rain slowly stopped pouring. The wind howled and a flapping of wings caught his ears. He looked in the sound's direction and saw a dragon coming towards his way. He stood up and looked stunned when the dragon landed in front of him and Alex’s tombstone. “D-Darius?” he stutters with a shocked expression. How come Darius is alive? He witnessed the dragon’s last breath. The dragon roared and hissed at him and he stepped back away while covering his face because he thought Darius would blow a fire but it didn’t happen. When he uncovered his eyes, Darius stared at Alex’s gravestone while letting out a small sound like he was calling something.

“Yes.” Liam ran a hand through his hair. “That’s impossible.” Kai’s jaw clenched tightly. “Not impossible.” Aria looked between them. “Who is he?” None of the brothers answered immediately. Finally Ezra spoke. “Darius was a warlord.” “A rogue Alpha,” Liam added quietly. Kai’s voice was colder than she had ever heard it. “He tried to unite rogue packs years ago.” “What happened to him?” Aria asked. “We killed him,” Ezra said flatly.

A pair of leather shoes, long legs of black pants, and a black shirt…my gaze moved further to rest on pink lips left out under the black mask he wore. Who exactly was he? His rare gold colored eyes pierced through my being, and in that moment it felt as though I was bare. My nipples stirred under my wet dress, making things even worse than they already were. “Prince Darion,” The attendants chorused, their heads dropping, unable to look at the man as though he was a plague. Or perhaps someone of high status –pretty evident from his temperament. I clenched my jaw hard, feeling the swell on my cheeks. It still hurt from last night…if not even worse.
