“It’s out there, Draken. Something old.The trees… they’re clawed like nothing I’ve seen.” He snarled, a deep sound that vibrated through my bones and made the forest tremble. “I smell the rot. Things that should’ve stayed buried. Whatever this abomination is, we don't leave. Not until i kill whatever touched you.” The sky opened and rain hammered down turning the ground to mud. Without a word, Draken scooped me up, cradling me against his body. His warmth seeped into me, chasing away the chill of fear as he carried me up the hillside to the ruins of an old stone watchtower.

He hissed as he started to walk. My hands wrapped around his hand for support as I continued to stare him. “It’s automatic, asshole. What celebration were you expecting? Playing jackstone?” I sarcastically asked under my breath before burying my head onto his chest. I can hear his heart beating. Maybe because I was drunk, I had the confidence to talk back at him; maybe because I was drunk that I want his presence all to myself. Chapter 22 "Violet," Josephine mouthed, her eyes trembling, her stomach sinking. "No… this is impossible," she whispered, as Violet's heels clicked against the marble floor, she sat down at the edge of the table. "Tell me, Josephine, why is it so impossible?" Violet asked, a smirk tugging at the corner of her lips, though her eyes remained dead cold and serious. The aura in the room shifted instantly, her presence alone commanding. The Dreadmaw ruins loomed like a carcass half-buried in the hills outside Ashwood—burned-out halls, cracked stone pillars overtaken by vines, and moonlight bleeding through holes in the collapsed ceiling. Once a stronghold of proud warriors, now it reeked of ash, rust, and broken promises. And yet... it breathed. Quietly. Like a beast in slumber. Fenrak stood alone beneath what was once the council chamber. Moss crept along the walls like veins. Water dripped steadily in the silence. He hated this place. Hated the ghosts it fed him. My heart still clenched every time I thought of the scorch marks on his walls, the heat warping his shelves, the blackened floorboards that crackled when I stepped on them the next morning. And the look on his face… haunted. Ash-smeared and trembling. As if he had fought something in his sleep and almost lost. I ran my fingers over the edge of a page written in an ancient dialect, barely decipherable, trying to shake off the image. Draven entered the chamber quietly, as he always did lately, no clang of boots, no unnecessary words. Just his steady presence. He carried two mugs of tea, both steaming, and set one gently beside me without speaking.

Though I will miss this sight I do not feel the same about the cold. We fly like a flock of birds using each other to glide through the frostbitten wind.
