Steve entered and Ghost turned the key in the mouth and the car sparked into life. Ghost drove off immediately with speed and Steve held on to the seatbelt closely.

His eyes, usually a tempest of hazel and obsidian, went dead still as he stared at the name of the man he had seen buried two decades ago. The shadows were still closing in, their blades clicking like the mandibles of giant insects, but Dante seemed to stop breathing. The man who feared nothing was finally looking at a ghost he couldn't kill. The obsidian ship groaned, a massive hull plate buckling and sending a spray of icy seawater across the deck. The red searchlights from the approaching fleet were blinding now, turning the mist into a thick, scarlet soup.

But I’m not letting you slaughter half the city tonight because some drunk slid cash into her garter.”
