I glanced at Jessica, who looked pale and terrified, then turned my gaze to the man I had once been so madly in love with.
I asked hoarsely, "Joseph, what kind of prayers were you uttering all those years? Why has your heart become even darker than before?"
Joseph's eyes widened in shock as he looked at me. "Were you reborn, too?"
I didn't answer as I leaned weakly into Theodore's arms with tears streaming down my cheeks. I buried my face against him, sobbing as I choked out, "Theo, I feel awful."
Theodore pressed a gentle kiss on my forehead and murmured softly, "It'll all be fine once we give you a shot."
