A brown diamond is shining on its forehead. I haven’t seen this beast before, nor I read about them. It’s creepy as hell. To know the origin of the beasts, I have to touch it.

There was no need for me to bother the rangers for blood samples because Grayson came back with a dead deer slumped across his shoulders. “I come bearing gifts,” Grayson joked. I wrinkled my nose. “Thanks . . . it’s just what I’ve always wanted.” He set it down on the dirt path and I was able to take the necessary blood samples. I swabbed around its mouth for good measure, hoping I could detect anything substantial. Lucas had shifted into his wolf form and dug out a big hole in the ground. Grayson rolled the deer into the hole, and Lucas buried it with dirt. Then he shifted back and put his clothes back on. He was filthy, and his fingernails were ingrained with soil.
