He was a history teacher at the high school and I had no idea how he was friends with Harley. Fifty minutes later I walked down the stairs dressed in a black cocktail dress that Harley had made me promise I would wear with high heels and Damon literally froze in his steps when he saw me on the last step. “You’re really going out with some other man?” he asked me. “Yes, we’re co-parents Damon, nothing more,” I said to him. “I see,” he said and walked through to the kitchen with Griffin in his arms.

Damon says deeply. “Come in.” The door opens and Gracie walks in. She smiles and says. “Hi, I am Gracie Almada. I work with Beckett. I am a firefighter as well.” Damon frowns and narrows his eyes at her. He couldn’t help the feeling that came over him when he looked at her. She reminded him of the psycho bitch who tried to kill Jessica. “That doesn’t explain why you’re in my office right now. This is a private office. How did you even get back here?” He asks.

“But this predates her official appointment to the board by at least four years. How is that possible?” Damon turned, jaw clenched. “She forged her way in. This wasn’t earned, it was orchestrated”. Juliette’s brow furrowed. The second signature - Donovan Gray. Wasn’t he declared dead? Damon nodded. “Ten years ago. Car crash. No remains were recovered. Case closed within forty-eight hours”. Juliette held up the photo. “Then why is he standing next to her in this?” Before Damon could respond, a sharp knock rattled the door. Marcus Vale, Damon’s head of security and lead investigator, entered soaked from head to toe, holding a thick file wrapped in waterproof casing.

He reserved a special glare for Rose as they rounded the last corner, leading to the corridor that housed Jasmine's office and almost walked into her. "Rose, I see you were released from the cell," Damon said as evenly as he could. He had a special hatred for the woman, she was the worst kind of snake, presenting herself as a respectable figure when in reality she was a cold-hearted bitch with arsenic pumping through her veins. "Have you returned to duty?" he asked in as civilized tone as he could manage.

I kept my hands folded in my lap as we drove, wondering what I had gotten myself into by agreeing to this. Inside the car, it was quiet for a long time. I finally broke the silence. “Tell me about your family.” Damien’s expression changed right away. “There’s not much to tell.” “I doubt that,” I said. After a pause, he started talking. “My father remarried after my mother died. Victoria is my stepmother. She likes control.” I smiled a little. “That’s your warning?” “No.” He glanced at me briefly. “This is. Answer only what you’re asked. Don’t volunteer information.”

Damon stood at the balcony door, the morning sun behind him, shirtless, sweatpants hanging low on his hips, a cigarette between his fingers. His eyes dragged down my body slowly. Painfully. Possessively. Like he remembered every place he touched last night. My cheeks burned. He stepped inside, voice deep and rough from sleep. “Leaving already?” I swallowed. “I—I’m late for work.” He moved closer, slow and unhurried, like a predator approaching prey that had no chance of escape. His gaze dropped to the shirt hanging off my body. “My shirt looks good on you,” he murmured.

Elias breathed, but his breath caught in his throat as Damien reached down, his large, heavy hand grabbing Elias by the front of his silver dress shirt. With a single, effortless surge of his iron-hard wrists, Damien yanked him off the mattress, forcing Elias’s chest flat against his broad torso. The scent of raw cedar, rain, and expensive tobacco rolled off Damien's skin, instantly obliterating Elias's remaining internal defenses. Elias groaned, his fingers clawing desperately into the dark silk of Damien's shirt as their mouths collided in a brutal, deeply starved kiss that tasted of absolute ruin.
