“Anytime. You know I’ve got your back. Just like you’ve got mine,” he says, and there’s a sincerity in his tone that eases some of the tension from my shoulders.
“We good for next week? The meet-up?” I ask, shifting gears to upcoming alliances.
“Wouldn’t miss it. Keilani’s looking forward to it too,” he replies, and I can almost see his grin through the phone.
“Great. See you then,” I say, ending the call. I sit for a moment longer, the information settling in. Kris was honest, and her work is legitimate. It’s a lot to process, another layer of complexity in the already intricate tapestry of our lives.
