MATED TO MY BULLIES
Each doorway was made of the same glowing symbols that covered the walls, pulsing with that wrong green light.
And through each doorway, I could see places that shouldn't exist. The first showed a forest, but the trees were wrong. Too tall, too twisted, their leaves the color of dried blood. The second showed what looked like a city, but the buildings defied geometry, leaning at impossible angles. The third showed only darkness, absolute and total, that seemed to pull at my eyes.
"Three trials," Maya said, her white eyes reflecting the green glow. "Three impossible choices. Three tests of worthiness. Complete them and I'm yours again. Fail and you're hers."
