Moon Touched
I could still see her in my mind’s eye.
“She was tall but so thin, painfully thin. Her bones jutted out beneath the tattered rags barely hanging on her frame. Her skin was streaked with dirt and dried mud, and her hair, goddess, was a tangled, matted mess. I couldn’t tell what color it was beneath all that filth.” My throat tightened again, and I blinked back the sting of tears. “When I tried to speak, she slapped a hand over my mouth and made a shushing gesture with her other hand. I’ll never forget her eyes.”
They were wild, filled with terror and desperation, a fear etched into her soul. I didn’t need to say more. Agnes could sense I was struggling, and she picked up where I left off.
