Chapter 28 Michael Walker sat in his office, his eyes glued to the screen of his computer. He had spent the last few weeks distracted, barely able to concentrate on his work. The news had spread like wildfire, and now every media outlet was buzzing with the story: Kaitlyn Dever, the woman he had discarded, was now Mrs. Estefan Salvatore. Michael’s knuckles turned white as he gripped the edge of his desk, the muscles in his jaw tightening with every passing second.

He bowed to Roman and began speaking. “As you all know, I am Allen Walker, Liah's only brother and the Alpha's brother-in-law,” he started and no one objected to that. Everyone knew him, apparently, everyone except me. “My sister never eloped with anyone. Infact, she was never kidnapped to begin with. She murdered before my very eyes and that of her mate.” Gasps erupted and I felt a sharp pain in my chest. 'Mate,’’ Arla whimpered and my gaze shifted to Roman. His face was a blank mask but I was certain this pain I was feeling was from him.

"But I need you to understand something too. Whether or not you talk to us, your life might already be in danger." The woman's grip on the door faltered slightly. "What are you talking about?" Gabrielle hesitated only a moment, sharing a knowing look with Saint before delivering the truth plainly. "Sampson. Elena's younger brother. He was murdered some days ago and we believe it has to do with someone trying to cover up their dirty tracks." The color drained from the woman's face instantly. Her hand slipped from the door entirely as she staggered, one palm pressed hard against her mouth.

I murmured. Maya's expression softened. “No”. I looked at her. “Don’t say that”. A bitter laugh escaped my lips “Why not it’s true”. “Liv, he cheated on you with your stepsister, and that's on him, not you”. Tears filled my eyes. “ I really loved him”. I murmured. “I thought he was going to be my husband”. My voice cracked. “ I thought I was finally building something that was mine”. Maya's expression softened.

Maurice had a way of getting under my skin like no one else. Sometimes I wondered why I even kept him around. Then I remembered—if we hadn’t met, I probably wouldn’t still be alive. That usually shuts that thought down. “When’s the wedding again?” he asked, like he was genuinely interested. I stared at him for a second before looking away, leaning my head back and fixing my gaze on the ceiling instead. “Does she know her brother-in-law is coming too?” “No,” I said flatly. “She doesn’t. Because you weren’t supposed to.”

Now that he and Sally were having a wedding, he hoped he could do the same as Sally and shake his family’s hands at the ceremony. And that included… Freya Moses. As he thought of that, the man raised his gaze to glance at Freya. “Sis, I hope that you will be able to make it to my wedding.” Freya turned her face to the other side and grunted softly in response but did not say anything else. “Your sister is still in denial that you’re the one who’s beneath Sal now.” Mr. Moses Sr smiled and waved at Sally. “Sal, come over here.”

I said to my hands. Tessa squealed, and I shushed her. “It’s not that simple,” I said. “Remember those rumors you were telling me about?” Tessa tilted her head to the side. “The ones about the mafia?” I nodded. “They’re true.” Tessa snapped her fingers. “I knew it! How did you find out for sure?” I couldn’t get into the details about Sal’s murder. That would give too much away. Besides, I didn’t know the specifics, and I wasn’t going to get my best friend involved. “Some men came by his place last night and threatened him about something.”

he said, his hands stretched out for me to take. Killian twitched, ready to snap at Ethan, but then, I bit him to it. Grabbing Ethan’s hands, I held on tightly on it. A wide smile on my lips as I spoke. “Mrs Thompson’s you mean, not Landers. Killian and I are married. And thank you for your invite.” His jaws hardened the moment those words left my lips. And it took everything in me not to smile widely knowing my words must have gotten to him. I expected a comeback, but he kept silent, so I retracted my hands from his, as a gentle expression wafted on my face.

Mujaheed was cut off when the door to his office opened showing none other than his brother who went to ease himself, his wife and sister in-law. "I saw them outside and decided to bring them in." Murad explained himself trying to sound sheepish, he didn't hide the joy in his face. He don't want them talking about war strategy of some hidden mafia stuff, he wants to do it while they rest. "You can go, the meeting is adjoined." Mujaheed announced, his eyes still holding Kauthar's they don't show anything she is thinking. He is sure she isn't there willingly, his sister in-law definitely dragged her there.

I nod. "This is crazy. What happened? You know I was looking into him like I always look into my potential clients and I found this very funny story on the internet. He pronounced you dead only a couple of hours after you got into a nasty accident, then he went ahead and married another lady a week later." I never thought hearing it from somebody could increase how terrible the story sounded. Hearing it from Myles made me sound like garbage. "He got married to my younger sister." Myles' jaw drops. "You're kidding."
