Cassandra’s POV It wasn’t until a week later that I finally got up the nerve to ask Dillon about his ex-wife, Laura. Dillon had been recovering for the better part of the week, and I didn’t want to disrupt his progress. He was mostly asleep anyway, drifting in and out of dreams, seeming a bit dazed and confused. So I waited until I felt like he could handle the emotional weight of the conversation. “Hello beautiful,” Dillon smiled at me as I came into his room. Cameron and I had been taking shifts at the hospital, making sure that at least one of us was always there for him, although, in all honesty, I was there the most.

The sound of someone moving around the room quickly woke me up. I sat up, staring around the room as my eyes adjusted. I realised I wasn't at home, and it took me a few minutes to remember that I was at dillions. My eyes fell on Dillion. He was standing over at his dresser with his back to me and without a shirt on as he rummaged through his drawers. I couldn't help but admire the muscles that rippled beneath his skin, the way his back tapered down to a narrow waist. Guilt overcame me as I shouldn't be admiring Brax's best friend.

He led her down a corridor and stopped at a door at the far end. He pushed it open. Inside, a man in his mid-thirties sat in a chair, polishing a military knife. When he saw her, he smiled. "Sharon. Right on time." A thick scar cut across his face, fierce and twisted, amplifying the menace in his expression. "And you are…?" The man introduced himself. "Dillon Yale." Sharon nodded. "Dillon, the money has already been delivered. Can we go now?" Dillon chuckled. "What's the rush, Sharon? Carter isn't here yet. If you all leave now and something happens on the way, he might pin it on me. That wouldn't be fair, would it?"

A rogue was also attacking him, and he needed to dodge it that made him open to Cessair’s attack. He knew that he couldn’t dodge Cessair’s attack – and it would be a fatal blow for him. He braced himself for the intense attack, but before he had landed that attack on him, Dillion suddenly appeared, and he was the one who had suffered the hit. “Dillion!” He loudly called his name as he had been thrown away to the ground. His eyes widened as he saw how Dillion coughed with blood and so did his huge and long wound. Cessair mockingly smirked at him.

Dillon pulled out a shining dagger and went close to the bedside. "Do it quickly" David snapped at him. "Of course, show me your hands. Put them behind your buttocks" he told him as he showed his hands. David let out a sigh. He seemed Dillon had suspected he had a different motive. "Close your eyes" Dillon instructed him again. David closed his eyes and it felt like he had put off all his defences. Dillon rubbed his hand on David's belly. "Didn't you say you are making it fast? That won't make it fast" he notified him.

It was very visible that that wasn't a topic he was willing to have, not now or ever, but Elle, being a little on the dumb side, didn't read the signs. “Oh I know. Her father is the lead rogue that caused the massacre so many years ago, right?” Just then, Damien sensed Ariel's presence in the room, and immediately their eyes clashed. Ariel wished with all fibre in her body that she could turn back the hands of time, to stop herself from entering the room. She sensed the anger in him, and knew for sure that she was in for a very rough night.

Prologue ~~~~~~~ One time, there existed a young man who resided outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His name was Dillon Vera. He was sixteen years old, and neared the end of his freshman year of high school. Like many teenagers, Dillon had had a rough time. With his hormones and self esteem all over the place, it was difficult to find anywhere to fit in. Add in the fact that Dillon's best friend Dominic, Dom for short, had just moved down south, and Dillon was not happy. Dom was two grades above him, but they had been best friends since they were small.

She left the doctor's office and went to Dillon's ward. However, she met what she never expected. As soon as she opened the door, she saw Mrs. Jessica Long, Dillon's mother, and Mirabel in the ward. Mirabel was sitting on the bed beside Dillon and was feeding him Jollof Rice and Chicken. Dillon raised his head when he heard her approaching footsteps. His lips curled into a contagious smile when he saw Ivy. "Hey! Come here. Let me introduce you to my wife," He announced, waving his hands at Ivy.

Matthew asked Dillion. "For a while." replied Dillion. I looked toward him with a smirk. He only said that because he forgot what the doctor said. Shaking my head I walked slowly by Dillion as he practically limped himself towards the couch. I turned towards Matthew wanting to thank him for watching Dina. He is so nice to have watched Dina for us while Dillion was in the hospital. He didn't need to, I mean he's my boss for crying out loud. Maybe he isn't so bad after all.

He leaned in, making a show of inhaling the scent of sex still clinging to me and chuckling when my face turned red. As soon as we exited the hospital, stepping out into the cool night air, Dillon’s phone pinged, shooting off a string of text alerts.. “The steel walls in that room must have blocked my signal.” He grumbled, pulling his phone out of his pocket and reading through the messages. “Fuck!” “What is it?” I asked nervously. I could tell by the look on his face it was nothing good. Dillon’s head snapped up, a pained look in his eyes. He stared back at me for a minute, sadness and regret morphing into steel resolve.
